Project 1
Chevron Africa, in partnership with Sanghani Group, conducted a comprehensive techno-economic feasibility study for a proposed dry bulk terminal in Takaungu, Kilifi County. The project aims to address operational inefficiencies and environmental concerns linked to bulk cargo handling at Mombasa Port.
The study identified Takaungu as a technically viable and environmentally suitable location, featuring naturally sheltered waters, minimal dredging requirements, and the potential for scalable infrastructure, including berths capable of accommodating Panamax vessels. The proposed terminal includes mechanized, covered cargo-handling systems and an 800,000 m³ warehouse, designed to ensure high throughput while minimizing environmental impact.
Financial analysis revealed the Panamax-based model to be the most cost-effective, delivering a projected 29% internal rate of return (IRR) and a three-year payback period.
Chevron Africa endorsed the project’s alignment with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and recommended advancing to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage, alongside securing the necessary government approvals and development rights.
Project 2
Chevron Africa was engaged by the Sarai Group to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the Mumias Sugar milling plant and its associated infrastructure. The objective was to evaluate the plant’s technical viability, operational efficiency, and the investment requirements necessary for its rehabilitation and modernization.
Chevron Africa’s scope covered a detailed review of the existing milling machinery, power generation systems, ethanol production units, and logistical networks, identifying both operational bottlenecks and opportunities for capacity optimization.
The study delivered strategic recommendations aimed at aligning the plant’s operations with industry best practices and regulatory standards, in support of Sarai Group’s vision to revive Mumias Sugar as a competitive and sustainable agro-industrial enterprise.
Project 3
Chevron Africa was commissioned by the Rai Group to conduct a detailed technical and operational review of the 27 MW Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plant and the 120,000 litres-per-day ethanol facility at Mumias Sugar Company. The assessment focused on evaluating the condition and performance of existing power generation and distillation infrastructure, identifying critical upgrade requirements, and assessing integration with the broader sugar milling operations.
Chevron Africa also reviewed energy efficiency, environmental compliance, and the potential for enhanced output and long-term sustainability. The review delivered actionable recommendations aimed at optimizing operations, minimizing downtime, and supporting the Rai Group’s efforts to restore Mumias Sugar as a fully functional, energy-efficient, and diversified agro-industrial complex.
